Basilica Cistern is the biggest and the most Famous Cistern in Istanbul. Located next to Hagia Sophia , it was built in the 6th century by the order of justinianus l. It has 336 columns in it and every column is 9 mt tall. The water comes 39 km away , from the Belgrade forests . The Roman people built Aqueduct just to bring the water. The Blue Mosque or with Turkish “Sultan Ahmet Camii” is the last great Mosques on the classical Ottoman architecture style. It built between 1609 and 1616 by order from Sultan Ahmet. After it built, the Ottoman Architecture will adopt the Western Baroque architecture style in its buildings. That so the Mosque considers as the last witness on the Classical Ottoman architecture. Than will visit the Hippodrome.
Hippodrome was the center of Eastern Roman Empire for 1000 years as well as for the Ottoman Empire for 400 years. Today it is a place called SultanAhmet Meydanı, known worldwide as SultanAhmet Square and located in the heart of the historic peninsula of Istanbul. Just in between the Blue mosque and Turkish islamic arts Museum.
When we are in Hippodrom we will
See the Great Obelisk and also the serpentine column. Also will talk about the games and Revolutions held in the past in this Place.
After the Hippodrome
Our last visit will be to the Turkish Islamic Arts museum.
In the Museum there are lots of handmade impressive handicrafts that presents the beauty of the wood, porcelain, glass, metalwork and stone industries of the old Turkish principalities cultures. Also there is a large collection of exhibits, antiques and paintings of the fascinating Arabic calligraphy that you must check out. There are many hand writed books , cover of Kaaba ,and Vases and also handmade Turkish antique Carpets from 11,12,13 centuries.
The end of the tour will be at the Entrance of Islamic art Museum.
