Welcome to our Süleymaniye Mosque walking tour program .
After the conquest of Constantinople( 1453) . istanbul became the Capital city of İslamic world . Later many Churhes turned in to a mosque and many new mosques were added to the siluet of the istanbul city by the Ottoman management .
And as we know the İstanbul was built on seven hills , so the Ottoman Sultans started to build the Mosques specially on the top of the hills . So the Süleymaniye Mosque is One of those mosques which was built by the great architect Sinan by the order of Magnificent Süleiman in between 1550-1557.
Our dear guest , for our Süleymaniye Mosque walking tour we start at 9:00 am at the Entrance of Hagia Sophia museum . Than we will visit several touristic attractions before we reach to Süleymaniye.
The first place that we are going to visit is called “ Şerifiye Cistern” .
there are more than 120 Cisterns İn istanbul , Specially the Basilica Cistern is the most famous one . Cisterns were used to collect the water or just keep the water to serve to the public in the Byzantine and Roman era . Şerifiye Cisterna was built for the purpose of storing water from the Bozdoğan Arch . İt was built by the order of Theodosius ll ( 428-443 AD. ) . The place is Located in Fatih district. Well very close by the Hagia Sophia.
After Şerifiye Cistern , on our way to Nuruosmaniye Mosque we will pass near by the Column of Constantine which is knowns as “ Çemberli Taş “
was built by the order of Great Constantine in 330 AD. When the Great Constantine changed the “Byzantium “name into “Nova Roma “he built this column as the commemorate the New name of the city.
after Hagia Sophia , Süleymaniye , and Fatih mosque it’s dome is the fourth largest dome in istanbul.
İt was built in Ottoman baroque style , The Nuruosmaniye mosque is an 18 century Ottoman baroque style mosque. When we are inside you will love how distinct is it’s dome . We will spend there around half an hour
Than in couple of minutes we will enter from the door of Grand Bazaar
please imagine , The oldest and biggest Covered Bazaar in the world. One can shop anything wanted. There is no no inside . Carpets , tiles , jewlery , gold , all kind of fabrics , textile , leather bags , turkish delights , cafeterias, restaurants , etc.
There are 61 covered streets , more ore less 4.000 shops , 31 km2 a huge market . Daily approximately 300.000 people visit this market . You can find all kind of products here . We suggest you to follow your Guide Advises about where to shop or what to buy.
When we are in the Süleymaniye Mosque , we will meet with art of Architect Sinan who lived back then in 1490-1588. Built more than 300 major structures. İn his fifties became the chief of Ottoman Architect . Süleymaniye Mosque is one of his greatest works. One can not believe on his/her eyes when enter inside the building. ofcourse the Magnificent Süleiman his life and his Wife Hurrem sultan and all about the Otttoman empire and islam religion will be our topics. Alot of fun, alot of , history, alot of Shopping, alot of Photograps… After Süleymaniye Mosque we will walk down to the Spice Market.
it is located in Eminönü , next to the Golden Horn and Galata bridge.
